Rev. David Berg was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. The younger son of music educators (Ken and Susan Berg), David grew up in a musical family. He also grew up in the church, as both parents held staff positions at various churches in the Birmingham area. David was baptized at Brookwood Baptist Church at the age of 8 and participated in the Youth Council throughout Middle School and High School at Riverchase Baptist Church.
A graduate of John Carroll Catholic High School, David chose to stay in Birmingham for college, attending the University of Alabama, Birmingham before transferring and graduating from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Voice. He then attended the James and Carolyn McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, GA where he received the Master of Divinity with a focus in Christian Education.
Thereafter, Fellowship Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, GA called David to be the Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries, ordaining him on September 14, 2013. During his two years on staff at Fellowship Baptist Church, David served on the Board of Directors for the Ben Hill County chapter of Habitat for Humanity and volunteered with Communities in Schools as a mentor to elementary school age boys in need of a male role model. In December of 2015, David left Fitzgerald and moved back to Birmingham to serve as Director of Family Ministries and Outreach at Third Presbyterian Church. Upon returning to Birmingham, he resumed a music staff position from his college years with the Birmingham Boys Choir, of which he is a proud alumnus.
David has one older brother, Michael, who lives in New York City with his wife, Joanie. He also is the proud pet-parent of a sweet Miniature Poodle named Coco. In his spare time, David enjoys playing board games with his friends, reading, watching Food Network, and cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers. David is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a social music fraternity, having served as his chapter’s Music Director during his final year at Samford.
David looks forward to beginning his ministry with our church on Sunday, April 15!
